dangers of moonlight
by Peter Schwartz
Augusta, Me.

I believe in absence
and that deep forests of it wait
like cold cocoons

that tomorrow's most solid lullaby
allows only so many visitations before
being prevoked into vigils

which fool themselves
where they sit like pigeons
soaked in chaos

like some violent new
perfume arriving by dying
through the keyhole

(such roots long for
twilight even as they dust
themselves for sleep)

Peter Schwartz has over 150 poems published, some of them in
nationally-distributed journals, some printed overseas. He has stories and paintings published on and offline as well as his own somewhat controversial journal that can be sampled at: www.watchtheeye.com. He's also the associate art editor for Mad Hatters' Review and co-founder of www.sitrahahra.com. He lives almost silently in the forests of Maine.
